Adults

On the first morning, adult students take a diagnostic test and an oral assessment to determine their level of English and specific needs. After this, they attend an introductory talk about the course, school, and city to help them get acquainted with their new surroundings. This information is also included in the student guidelines and CELT digital welcome pack, which contains a city map and important contact details. After the induction, students are put into class and begin their programme.

Young Learners

On the first morning, Young Learners are taken to the school by their homestay providers (if applicable). They are then given a diagnostic test to ascertain their English language level to be placed into the appropriate class.

To help familiarise students with their new environment, the test is followed by an introductory talk about the course, school, and the city. The learners are led through the CELT welcome pack which includes the course timetable, social programme (if applicable), student guidelines, a map of Cardiff, and a student ID card displaying the contact details for their homestay, the school, our Accommodation and Welfare Officer, taxis, and emergency services.

Finally, the Young Learners are taken by CELT on a walking tour of Cardiff to discover the city centre and find the relevant bus stops to return to their homestay. After taking in major landmarks, students are given a welcome activity to complete in small groups to find out more about Cardiff and Wales.
